What’s a pensions dashboard?
A pensions dashboard is a digital tool intended to revolutionise how people engage with their pensions throughout their lives. Pensions dashboards will ensure people throughout the UK have easy access to key information about what pensions they have, who manages them and what they are worth.
What’s the Pensions Dashboards Industry Delivery Group?
As a result of the Department for Work and Pensions feasibility study and consultation on pension dashboards, MaPS has established the Pensions Dashboards Industry Delivery Group (IDG) to lead the delivery of the initial phase of the pensions dashboards programme.
This independent group is responsible for developing the required data standards, technology and governance to enable pensions data to be made available via multiple dashboards delivered by the industry, as well as one delivered by MaPS.
The IDG is forming a steering group and working groups bringing together representatives from a range of sectors:
- financial technology (fintech)
- financial services
- consumer groups
- regulators, and
What’s the role of the steering group?
This steering group will provide strategic direction across a range of topics to support the delivery of pensions dashboards. It will have a specific focus on building consensus amongst and representing the industry and consumers who will be involved in and impacted by the implementation and rollout of pensions dashboards.
Reporting into the MaPS Pensions Dashboards Project sub-committee, the steering group will meet once a month initially from October 2019 and will oversee the activities of the IDG implementation executive.
What’s the role of the working groups?
The pensions dashboards industry working groups are the key forums for representatives from different sectors to be directly involved in developing and testing the functionality and ongoing governance of the pensions dashboards.
The working groups bring together subject matter experts with relevant skills and practical expertise to input into the design, build and run of the whole pensions dashboards service proposition.
The skills and experience we’re looking for
We are looking for individuals to support three workstreams:
- people, operations and processes
- technical solution.
These individuals will provide input and expertise on the above whilst representing three types of service users:
- people who want to find their pensions, e.g. pension scheme members
- dashboard providers, e.g. existing and new, eg banks, fintechs, wealth management companies
- data providers, e.g. private pensions, occupational pensions, administrators.
Working groups will cover a range of topics including (but not limited to) the below:
- technical architecture design and standards
- data standards and governance
- user journeys
- ID and verification
- regulation of the Dashboards and legal framework
- requirements: scope of minimum viable product for the whole dashboard ecosystem
- user interfaces – design and connection: to the public, the dashboard providers and data providers
- testing and release management
- financial fraud specific to online
- programme management of fintech and similar scale programmes
- operation of ‘run’
- marketing and nudging users.
How will working groups be managed?
The IDG is keen to encourage broad participation in working groups. Working groups will be user-centric, be organised around specific topics and use an agile/iterative delivery approach. Facilitated sessions will be run by the IDG and be a combination of virtual collaboration, physical meetings and reviews of produced documents prior to baselining a decision.
Depending upon the specific programme deliverable and the decision required, working group sessions are likely to take two approaches for content development: 1. co-creation and 2. review and iterate.
Formal deliverables produced by the three workstreams will be reviewed by the IDG to ensure, amongst other things, compliance with the design principles and government policy directives.
How often will they meet?
Working groups will run in short sprints to ensure that work is focused and that inputs from participants are gathered in an efficient and effective manner. A typical sprint is expected to run for 6 weeks during which participants are likely to be required to attend at least 3 sessions lasting up to 2 hours and contribute to work required in between the meetings. It is anticipated that participants will be required to spend up to 7 hours preparing for each session. We are intending to run some of these sessions virtually so that travel and time out of the office is kept to a minimum. Participants will be invited to join a face to face ‘meet up’ periodically.

How will working groups be selected?
A programme of this size and complexity will over its lifespan require different levels of expertise, on different subjects, at different times. The IDG Implementation Executive will review expressions of interest and match individuals to the specific workstream that we feel would benefit most from your input.
