Frequently asked questions

What is the relationship between MaPS and participating organisations?

The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) and participating organisations act as independent data controllers in relation to the personal data shared through the Money Guiders programme. Neither party processes personal data solely on behalf of, or under the instruction of, the other. This is not a joint controller arrangement.

What personal data is shared?

For programme administration and reporting purposes, data shared may include:

  • Name
  • Job title or role
  • Email address
  • Organisation name
  • Learning and engagement information, including e-learning progress.

MaPS may collect additional participant information for programme administration purposes. Where this information is not required by participating organisations, it will not be shared with them.

How long is personal data retained?

Each organisation is responsible for ensuring that personal data is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this notice and in accordance with its own retention policies and legal obligations.

Is personal data stored outside the UK?

Personal data held by MaPS and service providers supporting the Money Guiders programme is stored within the UK or European Economic Area (EEA). Any international transfers are managed in accordance with applicable UK data protection legislation and appropriate safeguards.

How is personal data protected?

MaPS implements appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. These measures are designed to safeguard information against unauthorised access, loss, disclosure or misuse.

Does my organisation need to complete a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)?

Each participating organisation is responsible for determining its own compliance obligations and whether a DPIA is required based on its specific processing activities and organisational policies.

MaPS has assessed its own processing activities relating to the Money Guiders programme and determined that a DPIA is not required for the data sharing activities described in this notice.
